AFUMC Music Ministry

Picture This! The Image of God is the theme for the Children’s Music Ministry for 2005-2006. Through singing songs, playing instruments, memorizing scriptures, moving to music, and studying great hymns, children will learn what God is like so that they may learn to reflect God’s Image in their own lives. Each month we will reveal how awesome God is--He is Faithful, our Protector and Provider, the Messiah, our Shepherd, Savior, and Comforter, and ultimately we will discover how great His love is for each one of us. It is our goal in the Children’s Music Ministry to help children grow spiritually while developing their unique abilities in music. Then, together in worship they give back to God the special gift that He has given them.

NEW THIS FALL!

Kids Praise

We are excited to announce that this Fall we have added another musical opportunity, Kids Praise, for our 1st-5th graders from 6:00-6:30 p.m. in the Children’s Music Room. Kids Praise will serve to teach children praise and worship songs, and will also offer a foundation in instrumental techniques and other forms of creative worship. Using praise songs as a musical basis, we will spend one month working with percussion, one with guitar, and one with sign language. Kids Praise will not be a performance group, but will offer a worship environment in which the children can learn experientially. Since Kids Praise is built on the skills learned in the other choirs, we are requiring participants to also be a member of at least one other choir.

Children's Choirs

Cherub Choir - An introduction to group singing and movement for children who are age 3 by September 1, 2005.
Sonshine Choir - Beginning children's choir includes singing and movement activities for children age 4 by September 1, 2005.
Joy Choir - Focuses on beginning vocal development and movement activities as preparation for learning musical concepts for kindergarten-age children.
Lyric Choir - Focuses on expanding singing skills and basic musical concepts for 1st and 2nd graders.
Celebrate Choir - Focuses on singing skills, part-singing preparation, and music reading preparation for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders.
Lyric Rhythm & Chimes - An introduction to tone chimes and rhythm exploration for 1st and 2nd graders.
Celebrate Chimes - Focuses on learning the basic techniques of tone chime ringing and music reading preparation for children in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades.

Sunday School Music

Each week in Sunday School, children have the opportunity to experience music as an integrated part of their Sunday School lesson. As we all gather for music assembly in the elementary department, songs are used to reinforce the scripture lessons taught in their rotation Sunday School classes. In our Preschool Department, music is used during the Sunday School hour to reinforce the Bible stories taught in these classes.

Community Bible Study

On Thursday mornings we offer a special "music time" for young children who attend Community Bible Study with their moms! Children as young as one year old experience the joy of music by participating in singing, movement activities, playing instruments, scripture songs, and praising God.

Music & Arts Week

Each summer, AFUMC offers Music & Arts Weeks to teach and promote the worship of God through music and the arts. Children from all over the community join together to sing, play instruments, move to music, make art projects, and experience the joy of making music and praising God. Children who have completed Grades 1-5 are invited to participate.
